MORE DETAILS about Australia's world class wine, food and accommodation

Australian wine holidays and Australian wines will certainly excite the palate. Choose from our range of wine tours to major wine areas like Barossa Valley, Hunter Valley, Yarra Valley or to lesser known regions like the Granite Belt, Rutherglen and Margaret River. This section includes individually chauffeured tours, and also accommodation options close to vineyards in the main wine areas.

Australian wines have an enviable reputation for quality and value for money and there has been a dramatic expansion of vineyards and wine making in the last 20-30 years. Wineries in all the wine regions can be visited and the wines tasted, with excellent nearby restaurants and accommodation.

South Australia produces more than half of of Australia’s wine with the Barossa Valley the best known region. The Clare Valley and McLaren Vale are also notable areas in South Australia. The Hunter Valley, north of Sydney, is the most famous wine region in New South Wales. In Victoria, about an hour from central Melbourne, the beautiful Yarra Valley has some superb wineries including Moet & Chandon’s ‘Domain Chandon’.  In Western Australia, the Margaret River region south of Perth is the best known and the Swan Valley, close to Perth itself, provides a good day trip destination.  Queensland is now developing its own grape growing areas centred on Stanthorpe in the Granite Belt and on the region immediately behind the Gold Coast.

Below, the main areas in which vineyards are found in Australia are listed by State.  We have broken down the information into Accommodation Options, for those self driving, and Touring Options, for those who prefer to be driven and perhaps also seek a knowledgeable guide.  Our selection of arrangements does not necessarily cover every area listed. Even if you want to self drive, we suggest that you might want to find your feet with an escorted wine tour (one day or longer), and combine this with a self driving itinerary.  Remember that a driver cannot swallow at wine tastings!
