 TASMANIA - Wine
Scroll down for details and Price Panel ...
Tasmania only produces small amounts of wine and the vineyards are concentrated in the north east, with some good Chardonnay, Cabernet and Pinot Noir.

The main winegrowing area in Tasmania ...
Pipers River and the Tamar Valley
Both areas are in the north eastern corner of Tasmania and Pipers River is  35 kilometres north-east of Launceston and undoubtedly the premier wine producing region in Tasmania, with the Pipers Brook (pictured) and Heemskerk wineries leading the way.
The cool and cloudy climate and the rich, red soils are well suited to viticulture, especially Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling and sparkling wines.

The Tamar Valley region is adjacent to Pipers River, closer to Launceston which sits on its banks.

Launceston is an attractive city with gracious Victorian buildings, parks and gardens and it is a busy commercial centre for the surrounding rich farming areas. Tasmania has a mild maritime climate and the average maximum summer temperature is 21 degrees C.

The countryside in north east Tasmania is very green and quite hilly, with many of the local towns having the atmosphere of an English country village.
