MORE DETAILS about wilderness in southern Queensland

Although Brisbane is some distance south of the Tropic of Capricorn, the area is still sub-tropical and nearby are some excellent wilderness attractions.  Some of these can be visited on a day trip from the Queensland capital city, whilst others, such as the world-renowned Fraser Island or the lovely and uncommercialised Tweed Valley (which runs into northern NSW), require extra time.
