Itinerary
Day 1
Depart Hobart and travel to Mt Field National Park and Russell Falls,
where you walk alongside the world's largest flowering trees and the
tallest hardwoods . Travel to Derwent Bridge and Lake St Clair,
then follow the Lyell Highway to Queenstown via the King William Range
and Victoria Pass, for overnight accommodation at Queenstown. (D)
Day 2
Today will be spent in the wilderness rainforest area of the famous West
Coast. Travel into the World Heritage area and see Tasmania's best
unspoilt wilderness. 4WD tracks and walks in the wilderness take
up most of this day and then return to Queenstown or Strahan (pictured) for
overnight accommodation. (B,D) |

Day 3
This morning you can choose to take the Gordon River Cruise (own
expense) if you wish. This will take you up the Gordon River to
see spectacular scenery and reflections of the true wilderness
rainforest. Walk through the rainforest at Heritage Landing before
returning to Strahan. Visit Montezuma Fall, the tallest in
Tasmania, involving soft 4 wheel driving along an abandoned railway line
and then a short walk to the falls. In the afternoon, if time
allows, travel out to see Ocean Beach and the mutton bird rookeries,
then return to Strahan (pictured) to see the sights and overnight
accommodation. (B,D)

Day 4
Today travel back along the Lyell Highway taking in more
wilderness. See Nelson Falls (pictured) and take short walks through the
forest. After lunch, trek to the old town of Hamilton to see
historic sandstone buildings before arriving back in Hobart and
finishing at around 5.30 pm. (Drop off in Launceston can also be
arranged.) |
