The mountain country which makes up the Flinders Ranges about 460 kms north of Adelaide, was an important area for Aboriginal nomads long before the arrival of Europeans.  This enchanting region is now Australia's grandest national park.  Flinders is an area of stunning beauty that features the unique geological structure of Wilpena Pound, spectacular gorges, abundant wildlife and evocative Aboriginal art sites.  Choose from one, two and three day options using 4WD vehicles and staying in the best accommodation available.

 One Day Southern Flinders 4WD Experience
Departs  Daily at 7 am from Adelaide subject to availability (Minimum of 2 passengers)

Touring in the magnificent Flinders Ranges is an experience not to be missed – majestic mountains, rugged scenery and ever changing light.  In summer, clear blue skies with a purple haze over the mountains and contrasting shadows create eerie patterns in the canyons and gorges.
Travel north in air-conditioned comfort with a local guide, through picturesque countryside and historic settlements into the Clare Valley.  This beautiful region is famous for its wines and you'll have an opportunity to visit one of the wineries.
Continue your journey northward into the Southern Flinders Ranges.  Visit the historic town of Melrose and see Mount Remarkable as you travel towards the country towns of Wilmington and Quorn.
The Flinders Ranges are famous for their nature filled valleys and riverbeds.  Lined with massive gum trees, they are home to a multitude of native Australian animals.
Warren Gorge is one of the few gorges in the Flinders Ranges that is a natural habitat to the yellow-footed rock wallabies.
Travel through Pichi Richi Pass, following the historic Old Ghan Railway line, to the top of the ranges with a splendid panoramic view over the Spencer Gulf.
Now, with the waters of the gulf on one side and the mountain ranges on the other, you travel back towards Adelaide.  The journey past old ports provides reminds us of the importance of this trade route in bygone days.
Arriving back in Adelaide, you will have experienced both the wildlife and diverse landscape that is Australia.

Two Day Flinders Ranges 4WD Explorer
Departs  Adelaide at 7 am daily subject to availability  (Minimum 2 passengers)
Returns  Adelaide approx 6 pm on day 2 

DAY 1:  The first day of your adventure takes you north into the famous wine regions of the Clare Valley. On your way, you'll travel past the historic town of Mintaro with its quaint cottages and old buildings and in Clare there should be time for a visit to one of the famous wineries before continuing your journey.  The legendary lilac haze of the Flinders Ranges looms ever larger. Soon it's time to take a 'backtrack' and head into the Ranges themselves.  You are now in wildlife country  - not only kangaroos and emus live here in abundance but also many species of unique birds and reptiles.  Today's destination is  Wilpena Pound and the resort here will be your base for exploring the ancient and dramatic gorges of the Flinders Ranges. This evening you'll have a chance to exchange notes and ideas with other travellers.

DAY 2:
  Your expert guide will take you through some unforgettable scenery in the Flinders Ranges, home to a vast number of native animals and birds.  Drive through Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges to the western side of the range, a region that was once an ancient seabed and now has important early fossils.  Enjoy lunch at the Prairie Hotel, Parachilna.  Then it's time to head back.  The homeward route will take you through old towns that hark back to pioneering days and as you travel along the coastal road, you'll see the  ports and seaside towns that were so important in the development of this region.  Return to Adelaide at approximately 6 pm.

Three Day Flinders Ranges 4WD Discovery
Departs  Adelaide at 7 am daily subject to availability  (Minimum 2 passengers)
Returns  Adelaide approx 6 pm on day 3

To really get a feeling for this remarkable part of the world, you need to spend a little time here. This three day adventure provides you with an opportunity to explore this unique region with an expert guide.

DAY 1:  Today you are collected from your hotel and head north to the wine districts of Clare and the historic mid-north.  Continue inland, heading towards the Flinders Ranges looming in the distance.  There are some special experiences in store for you as you cross regions settled by the earliest pioneers.  This area offers spectacular scenery and a taste of what is to come further north.
You continue your journey towards the first day's destination - Wilpena Pound.  The resort here will be your base for the next two nights. From here your guide will take you through passes and gorges and over hills and ridges.

DAY 2:  Bring your camera for this one. The Flinders Ranges are home to a vast number of some of Australia's best known native animals and birds. The vibrant colours of the rock faces change through the day with the passage of the sun, and dusk and dawn are unforgettably spectacular. This region once was an ancient sea bed and found here are some of the most important early fossils, 600 million years old.  Your guide will take your through Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges, over hills and ridges, with lunch at the outback Prairie Hotel at Parachilna.  
Overnight:  Wilpena Pound Resort including breakfast

DAY 3:  After your second night at Wilpena Pound, it's time to head back.  Your return journey takes you to the edge of this mountain area, where the Flinders Ranges meet the plain of the Outback that seems to go on forever into the distance.  Today is spent exploring the different terrain of the Western Flinders Ranges.  You will travel across private sheep and cattle station property and you will also have the opportunity to see some of the old townships of the Flinders Ranges.   Finally leaving the high country, you make your way to the coast and travel along the narrow corridor between sea and mountains until it gives way to the rich pastoral land that takes you back to Adelaide.  Return to Adelaide at approximately  6 pm.
