The Flinders Ranges is an unspoiled wilderness brimming with wildlife in its natural state.  You can see geology and fossils of world class importance and some of the most spectacular scenery in Australia. It won’t take long to realize why Australia’s most famous artists come here and try to capture the stunning landscapes, gorges, ridges and magnificent gums.  These two small group 4WD tours allow you to explore with an expert guide.
  

ITINERARY: Flinders Ranges 4WD Explorer: 2 Days / 1 night

Departs: Daily from Adelaide at 7.00am (minimum 2 passengers).  Arrives back at about 6.00pm

DAY 1: Adelaide to Wilpena Pound
Your adventure takes you north into the famous wine regions of the Clare Valley. On your way, you will travel through historic towns with quaint cottages and historic buildings. At Clare, you have an opportunity to visit one of the unique wineries in this region, before continuing your journey.

The legendary lilac haze of the Flinders Ranges, loom ever closer in the distance. You are now in the habitat of Australia’s famous wildlife – not only kangaroos and emus live here in abundance, but also many species of unique birds and reptiles.

Day 2: Flinders Ranges to Adelaide
Your expert guide will take you through some of the most unforgettable scenery. The Flinders Ranges are home to a vast number of native animals and birds. Some of Australia’s best-known animals abound amongst the gum trees and on the steep, ragged slopes of the gorges. Drive through Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges to the western side of the range. This region was once an ancient seabed and it now carries some of the most important early fossils. Here you will find 600 million year old fossils, a time span that defies understanding. The homeward route will take you through historic towns that hark back to the pioneering days. As you travel along the coastal road you will see the old ports and seaside towns that were so important in the development of this region. The countryside slowly changes as you approach Adelaide, but the memory of the raw majesty that is the Flinders will remain with you. (BL)

DAY 1: Adelaide to Wilpena Pound
Your adventure takes you north into the wine regions of the Clare Valley. On your way, you will travel through historic towns with quaint cottages and historic buildings. At Clare, you have an opportunity to visit one of the boutique wineries in this region. The legendary lilac haze of the Flinders Ranges, loom ever closer in the distance. You are now in the habitat of Australia's famous wildlife - not only kangaroos and emus live here in abundance, but also many species of birds and reptiles. From here, your driver/guide will continue the tour in to the heart of the Flinders Ranges through vast sheep station country. There will an opportunity to stop at one of the Ghost Towns for some stories and photos. Wilpena Pound Resort is your destination tonight, providing access to glorious walking trails and excellent accommodation. Optional scenic flights are available.

DAY 2: Flinders Ranges
Your guide will take your through Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges, over hills and ridges, with lunch at the outback Prairie Hotel at Parachilna. This region was once an ancient seabed and it now carries some of the most important early fossils. Here you will find 600 million year old fossils, a time span that defies understanding.

The vibrant colours of the rock faces, change through the day with the passage of the sun. Enjoy lunch at the Prairie Hotel (pictured). This historic Outback pub situated along the original Old Ghan Railway Line has an international reputation for its cuisine, in particular, their two signature dishes 'The Feral Mixed Grill' and the 'Feral Antipasto' (other meals available). Dusk and dawn are unforgettable spectacular. Bring your camera for this one.

Day 3: Flinders Ranges to Adelaide
After your second night at Wilpena Pound, the morning journey takes you through the Moralana Scenic Drive boasting magnificent views as you travel between the southern face of Wilpena Pound and the northern face of the Elder Range. After lunch you make your way from Quorn the home of the Pichi Richi Railway through the Pichi Richi Pass and Devils Peak to high country with views over the Spencer Gulf. See some of the historic seaside townships after leaving the Pass and making your way along the coast. The narrow corridor between sea and mountains gives way to the rich farming land that takes you back to Adelaide. (BL)
