3 Nights in the Country from Sydney

This small group tour departs from and returns to Sydney with a minimum of two people and  a maximum of eight people participating. Your overnight accommodation includes two 'farmstays' on working stations and this is a great opportunity for those on a tight time budget to add a taste of real country Australia to their Sydney visit, taking in the Outback, Aboriginal art and culture, the Hunter Valley, the Blue Mountains, great scenery and prolific flora and fauna along the way!  We wish we could come with you on this one!

Itinerary: Back of Beyond Tour
Departs daily with a minimum of 2 guests (maximum 4), subject to availability, with pick ups from central Sydney hotels
 
Day 1: Sydney to Coolah
Departing from Sydney at 7.30am head north across the Hawkesbury River and out through National Parks where you stop at a peaceful overlook for morning tea and a chat about the whole itinerary. Continuing on you stop at a boutique Hunter Valley winery for a tasting. After travelling through Denman  stop at Merriwa for lunch then through Cassilis on the way to Coolah Tops National Park. After a steep drive up  enjoy the breathtaking forests, spellbinding waterfalls and views across the fertile Liverpool Plains.
This evening  spend time with the farm owners at a delightful sheep and cattle property where kangaroos, wallabies and emus roam freely on the farm. Learn about the country life and enjoy a very social evening over a home cooked meal, along with some great wine.
Overnight: Baladonga
- a 4500 acre sheep and cattle property in Central Western NSW, located 10km north of Coolah. The 110 year old sandstone homestead is set in a spacious, pretty garden overlooking the surrounding hills. Kangaroos, wallabies and emus roam freely on the farm for guests to see and enjoy. Swimming, walks and a property tour are a feature.
  
Day 2: Coolah to Coonamble
This morning you are taken on a farm inspection plus can participate in farm work depending on your wishes. Mid morning depart for Coonabarabran for morning tea and spend time exploring the rugged beauty of one of New South Wales’ most impressive parks, Warrumbungle National Park. The next few days also provide a great chance to see native Australian animals in the wild, including kangaroos, koalas and wallabies. This afternoon  travel on unsealed roads to Coonamble, then on to Macquarie Marshes where prolific birdlife occupy the area year round. Tonight  spend an evening with your hosts at Thurn, another working sheep and cattle station.

Day 3: Coonamble to Mudgee
Your property inspection this morning introduces alternative farming techniques which have enabled this property to become viable in otherwise marginal land. Depart mid-morning and head south east, travelling through Gilgandra where you stop for lunch then on for a stop at Dunedoo. In the afternoon enjoy tasting some of the Mudgee region's premium wines before arriving at your overnight destination, a delightful hotel.

Day 4: Mudgee to Sydney
This morning make your way out through lush farmland to Wollemi National Park, a stop at Dunns Swamp then on through Gardens of Stone National Park. Drive up the famous Blue Mountains and stop for lunch. Have time to explore spectacular views in the heart of this unique World Heritage Listed Region before driving back in Sydney, arriving at about 4:30pm.

~ Changes to itinerary:  These tours involve travel in remote areas and the operator reserves the right to alter itineraries or accommodation as necessitated by weather, road and other operational conditions prevailing at the time. 

~ What to bring: Casual clothes, a jacket, comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen are advisable. All in one small suitcase or bag and don't forget your camera! A day pack can accompany you in the coach.

~ On the way:  Field guides covering Birds, Wildflowers, Trees, Mammals, and Palms / Ferns are carried in the coach.  The tour is SATELLITE PHONE equipped for 100% mobile phone coverage.
