Day 1 (Thurs or Sun)
Outback Sheep Station - White Cliffs Opal
Fields (L/D).
Leaving Broken Hill, travel north for 120 kilometres to a working
outback sheep station. This family owned property is unique as it
incorporates a private natural sanctuary for fauna and flora as well as
an abundance of Aboriginal rock art. Your guide will show you some
wonderful things, including plenty of wildlife like big red kangaroos,
emus, eagles and much more. Next look for a nice place to have lunch,
before continuing your journey on remote station roads through ever
changing countryside to the remote White Cliffs Opal Field. Dinner
and accommodation will be in the famous underground Motel - a very
unique experience!
Day 2
(Fri or Mon) White Cliffs Opal Fields - Broken Hill
(B/L/D).
After breakfast in the dining room, we tour
around the White Cliffs opal fields. You will have the opportunity to
learn how this unique community lives, visit underground houses, perhaps
purchase some of the local opal products and inspect an opal mine. See
the Old Field where in search of precious 'colour' over 50,000
holes have been dug since the 1880's. After lunch, return to Broken Hill
for dinner and overnight at the Royal Exchange Hotel.

Day 3 (Sat or Tues) Silverton Ghost Town
(B/[L]-see below).
This morning you visit the 'Hollywood of the Outback',
Silverton. Films such as A Town Like Alice, Mad Max II and many more
were filmed here. Visit some outback artists' galleries and see the
sweeping Mundi Mundi Plains, an unbelievable expanse of total flatness
where it is often possible to see the curvature of the
earth! You will then head back to the hill (Broken Hill) for
lunch before transfer to rail station or to the airport (prior to lunch)
for your onward travel. |
