The great wilderness region of the Kimberley, stretches between two main towns - the beautiful pearling centre of Broome on the west coast and Kununurra to the east.   The area is a treasure trove of stunning contrasts and natural beauty, including the beehive-shaped rock formations of the Bungle Bungle Massif in Purnululu National Park.  Wildlife abounds and there is an evocative array of ancient Aboriginal art and cultural sites.    It is possible to visit some of these unique natural attractions on short, or not so short, excursions from the two main centres.

Cape Leveque and Aboriginal Culture  - by 4WD
Full day   Departs Broome Monday - Friday (no departures Dec, Jan, Feb)
Travel to the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community, home of the famous pearl shell church built by the Pallotine Monks in 1917, for morning tea.  Then on to beautiful Cape Leveque for lunch (included in price) and leisure to enjoy the beaches and spectacular coastline before visiting the Lombadina Aboriginal Community.  Here an indigenous guide will take you on a tour of the community and its surroundings and give you a personal insight into the community's history.  Return to Broome at about 6.30 pm.

Buccaneer Archipelago - by air
Half day: Min: 2 persons Max: 5 per plane. Departs Broome Daily 7.30am and 1.00pm on request
Featuring the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago with a stopover at Cape Leveque.
After take-off, head north across the Dampier Peninsula and King Sound to the Horizontal Waterfalls. This natural phenomenon is created by one of the highest tides in the world flowing in a white-water plume through two narrow openings (subject to tidal changes). Circle this area in both directions allowing photo opportunities.
Next we fly over a pearl farm at Talbot Bay and the many hundreds of deserted islands of the Buccaneer Archipeligo. You also see the large open cut iron ore mines of Koolan and Cockatoo Islands.
Landing at Cape Leveque, enjoy refreshments, overlooking the Indian Ocean. A swim in the sheltered waters of the bay is a refreshing treat for passengers, with access to beach facilities. The flight back to Broome is along the many bays and beaches of the Dampier Peninsula’s west coast, including Willie Creek and the famous Cable Beach.

Kimberley Explorer - by air

Full day: approx. 10 hours. Min: 2 Max: 5 per plane. Departs Broome on request April - November.  
A very popular tour for visitors who enjoy sightseeing by both air and boat.  After departing Broome at 6.30am,fly across vast cattle country to Fitzroy Crossing. Here join a boat cruise on the mighty Fitzroy River through Geikie Gorge. The rock formations and colours of this ancient reef system are simply awe-inspiring, and fresh water crocodiles will often put in an appearance for keen photographers.
After a tour of Fitzroy Crossing, fly over Windjana Gorge formed by the Lennard River cutting through a 350 million year old Devonian period reef. The full length of Windjana Gorge can be viewed as you fly through the King Leopold Ranges and on to Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge for lunch (subject to availability).
After Mount Hart the next major attractions are the Horizontal Waterfalls and the Buccaneer Archipelago. Then land at Cape Leveque for refreshments and a swim. The tour returns along the bays and beaches of the Dampier Peninsula arriving into Broome at approximately 5.30pm.

DAY TOURS from KUNUNURRA
Ord River Cruise
Approx. 6 hours afternoon tour (lunch not included). Travel by coach to Lake Argyle and return by boat. Min: 2 persons, Max: 48. Departs Kununurra: 11.30am Apr–Oct; Noon Nov–Mar (no departures Feb). 
After collection from your hotel, travel by road to Lake Argyle. Here you will have the opportunity to view the Lake from one of the many high vantage points and visit the historic Durack Homestead. Bungle Bungle Deluxe - by air

Take in a day with a difference.  Experience views of Lake Kununurra, Lake Argyle and the Carr Boyd & Osmand Ranges enroute to the World Heritage Listed Purnululu National Park, home to the Bungle Bungle Range.  On landing, transfer for an exhilarating 30 minute helicopter flight over the Bungle Bungle. The sandstone massif of the Bungle Bungle Range is almost 300 times the area of Uluru – there are more stunning features and spectacular landforms to see in this half hour scenic flight than you would imagine possible. The flight includes the hidden red rock gorges of the northwest tip, Piccaninny Gorge from end to end and the unique beehive formations that have contributed to the listing of the Bungle Bungle Range as Australia’s newest World Heritage area. On landing you will be transferred into an air conditioned 4WD vehicle.  A short drive will take you past the amazing beehive domes.  Your unforgettable walk along Piccaninny Creek to Cathedral Gorge will indulge you in history before you reach the magnificence of the ancient amphitheatre which doubles as your lunch location. Take your time to explore the gorge for yourself, wandering amid the towering orange walls. Experience the tranquility of this impressive gorge which is lit from above by a giant hole in its sandstone roof. After lunch join a guided walk along the ancient dry bed of Piccaninny Creek and inspect the 350-million-year-old orange and black striped beehive domes up close. Your guide will bring the natural history of the Bungle Bungle domes to life. On return to the Bellburn base camp, light refreshments will be served.  The flight back to Kununurra will encompass an orbit of the Argyle Diamond Mine, one of the largest diamond mines in the world, it produces one-third of the world’s diamonds.
Walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen are all musts.
