Permanent Safari Camp Facilities

Comfortable permanent safari camps, strategically located in the remote Kimberley wilderness, provide comfortable twin-share tent-cabins with beds. The camps have a dining room, toilets and hot showers.  With no tents to erect or pack up, you can relax and enjoy your Kimberley holiday.  Low environmental impact policies are practised at all the camps.  Individual camp details are shown below.  Each camp has hosts to cook and look after you and the accommodation is on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
 

1. Bungle Bungle Wilderness Camp, Purnululu National Park
The Bungle Bungle region is located 312km from Kununurra.  The Bungle Bungle Wilderness Camp is near the Purnululu airstrip at Bellburn Creek, within the Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park.  This state-of-the-art Wilderness camp offers private facilities, comfortable beds with crisp linen, clean flush toilets, solar power and hot water plant.  In the evening, enjoy dinner under the stars in the unique indoor/outdoor dining facility and relax with new friends around the campfire.
Permanent cook/camp hosts are on hand to provide meals and refreshments and to maintain the camp. 
Bungle Bungle Wilderness Camp is usually open between 1 April and 31 October, although dates may vary slightly from year to year

3. Imintji Safari Camp - Gibb River Road
Imintji is 234km from Derby and near Bells Gorge on the Gibb River Road.
This shady and picturesque camp, located on Aboriginal-owned land near the Imintji Aboriginal community on Saddlers Creek, affords magnificent views of the King Leopold escarpment - especially breathtaking at sunrise and sunset.  Environmentally friendly and with 240 volt lighting, Imintji was created with the area's unique ecosystem in mind.  There are hot showers and tented cabins with twin beds, you'll also enjoy hearty breakfasts and three-course dinners accompanied by a complimentary glass of wine.

 

 With easy access to Bell, Galvans, and Barnett River gorges, and close to Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek, this is an ideal base for exploring the majestic western Kimberley. A general store that stocks diesel fuel is also located near the camp, making Imintji Wilderness Camp the perfect stop on your Kimberley adventure. Alcohol cannot be purchased from the camp but you are welcome to bring your own.
Imintji Wilderness Camp is usually open between 24 April and 10 October, although dates may vary slightly from year to year.

4. Marunbabidi Safari Camp - King Edward River
Located 475 km from Kununurra and 7 km from the Kalumbaru Road, on the way to the Mitchell Plateau.  The camp is on Aboriginal owned land, and is perfectly positioned for people looking for overnight accommodation on their way to either the Mitchell Plateau or Kalumburu.  Offering a beautiful bush setting beside the cool waters of the upper King Edward River, the camp provides access to a region rich in Aboriginal culture and unique flora and fauna. The waterway is home to hundreds of native birds, making this a good location for bird watching.  Many Wandjina and Gwion (Bradshaw) art sites can be found between Marunbabidi and Ungolan camps.  Visit the swimming hole or stroll through this tranquil wilderness. Staffed by trained camp hosts, Marunbabidi enables you to share in the knowledge of the area and enjoy home-style cooking, a complimentary glass of wine with dinner and Kimberley hospitality.  Alcohol cannot be purchased from the camp but you are welcome to bring your own.
Marunbabidi Wilderness Camp is usually open between 26 April and 14 October, although dates may vary slightly from year to year.

5. Ungolan (Mitchell Falls) Wilderness Camp - Mitchell Plateau
One of Australia's most remote accommodation facilities, Ungolan Safari Camp is located on Camp Creek's Permanent water, close to the Mitchell Plateau airstrip and 10km from Mitchell Falls, 550km from Kununurra.  The only permanent accommodation on the plateau, Ungolan Camp makes an ideal base for exploring the Mitchell Plateau and Mitchell Falls, a three tiered waterfall cascading over the plateau's edge and into the Mitchell River.  You'll enjoy a complimentary glass of wine with dinner and are invited to bring other alcoholic beverages (alcohol cannot be purchased from camp). The Wunambal people welcome you to explore Ngauwudu (Mitchell Plateau), home to astounding waterfalls, ancient Aboriginal art and unique flora and fauna.  
Ungolan Wilderness Camp is usually open between 27 April and 13 October, although dates may vary slightly from year to year.

6.  Mornington Wilderness Camp

Mornington Wilderness Camp is located 91 km from the Gibb River Road Mt House turnoff, 240 km east of Derby.  (Not marked on the above map.)  It is noted for its prolific bird life with over 170 species including the endangered Gouldian Finch.  There are also self guided nature trails through Dimond Gorge and Sir John Gorge and canoeing or swimming in the waterholes.
Mornington Wilderness Camp is run by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, dedicated to the protection of one of the most significant nature reserves in northern Australia.  The camp features luxury safari tents with private facilities, a fully licensed bar and restaurant.  Full details and prices for  Mornington Wilderness Camp...
