8 night/9 days Day 1 Broome to Windjana Gorge (BC) After leaving Broome stop briefly at Willare Bridge to gaze in awe at the size of the Fitzroy River and the amount of water that flows in it during the wet season. Continuing on, leave the bitumen behind as you head for the Oscar Range and on to Tunnel Creek, a 750 metre tunnel that passes under the Napier range, rich in bush ranger history - just ask your guide for the true story. (LD) Day 2 Windjana Gorge to Mt Barnett (C) After spending a few pleasant hours exploring Windjana Gorge with its abundance of freshwater crocodiles it’s time to hit the track again and travel along the famous Gibb River road to Manning Gorge to watch the sunset over the Barnett Range (BLD) Day 3 Gibb River Road and Gorges (BC) A great day of swimming and hiking as you explore some of the Kimberley's striking gorges. You might go to Barnett, Manning, Adcock or Galvans depending upon the time of year. Tonight is bush camping. (BLD) Day 4 Gibb River Road to Parry Farm or Diggers Rest Cattle Station (C) Continue along the rugged Gibb River Road, travelling through some ancient and spectacular country before crossing the Pentecost River and heading to the famous El Questro Station. You'll walk into the beautiful Cockburn Ranges and go for a swim under the waterfall at Emma Gorge. Call in at Wyndham and the Five Rivers Lookout before heading to your overnight camp at Diggers Rest Cattle Station or Parry Farm. (BLD) Day 5 Parry Farm/Diggers Rest to Bungle Bungles (C) Start the day visiting the bird watchers' paradise of Marlgu Billabong, then sit back and admire the awesome scenery of the Carr Boyd and Durack Ranges as you head to Turkey Creek. Take a challenging 4WD trip into the Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park for sunset over the Osmond Ranges and your overnight camp. (BLD) Day 6 Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park (C) Spend a full day exploring the unusual rock formations of the Bungle Bungles massif, visiting the unique Frog Hole, the breathtaking Echidna Chasm and the magnificent Cathedral Gorge. You'll have time for an optional scenic helicopter flight (at own expense) over the Bungles before heading to your overnight bush camp. (BLD) Day 7 Bungle Bungles to Kununurra (CP) This morning it's into 4WD to wind out of the Bungle Bungles before heading to the capital of the north, Kununurra. This afternoon explore Hidden Valley, just a stone's throw from Kununurra township. Overnight is in a formal caravan park and campsite with showers (BLD) Day 8 Kununurra to Victoria River (BC) This morning drive out to Lake Argyle and the Ord River Dam where there is time to take in the magnificent expanse of the largest man made lake in Australia. This afternoon cross the border into the Northern Territory. Time permitting you may have a look in at the Keep River National Park before heading to tonight's camp on the Victoria River. (BLD) Day 9 Victoria River to Darwin Begin the final stage of your adventure this morning with the short leg to Katherine where there will be a brief visit to Katherine (Nitmiluk) Gorge. Heading north now, stop at Edith Falls for a final refreshing and relaxing swim before heading into Darwin where sadly it is time to farewell your new found friends. (BL) Truly Ref 498 |
