This  superior 5 day, small group safari, for a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 12 passengers, takes in the most important sites in Kakadu National Park.  You will visit Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge), Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), Jim Jim Falls, Twin Falls and of course do the Yellow Waters cruise at sunrise.  All meals are included and overnight camping is in a private permanent safari camp.  (See below)
With an area of almost 20,000 square kilometres, Kakadu needs more than just a couple of days to explore. They have been specifically designed to keep cool and comfortable.  A tent has two standard size single beds, each with a traditional Australian bushman's swag and high density mattress, linen, blankets and pillow.
Each camping area is serviced with solar heated showers and flushing toilets. In the evenings you will enjoy sumptuous candlelit dinners from the camp fire.  Vegetarian and other diets are catered for -  just let us know on booking.

Departures:  Every Monday from 5 May to 24 November 2008
Day 1   LD
The safari departs your hotel at around 7.00 am.  Travel south down “The Track” to Adelaide River, you can visit the tranquil War Cemetery and break for refreshments under the shady trees at the local inn.  Continuing south,  travel to Pine Creek, scene of a major gold rush a century ago, and then turn east towards Kakadu.  From the park boundary it’s not far to Gunlom, a permanent safari camp where you'll stay for 2 nights. Here you can swim and explore at the top and base of the falls.
Overnight:  Gunlom permanent camp
Day 2   BLD
This morning travel to Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge), a pristine wilderness area of very limited access. Koolpin Creek flows down several hundred feet through a series of waterfalls and spectacular pools often called the Giant's Staircase.  You'll have the entire day to explore this area, photograph its grandeur, swim in the crystal clear pools or just relax on the sandy banks of the creek.  Late afternoon return to your permanent safari camp at Gunlom.  Please note a moderate level of fitness is required to do the full day walk.
Overnight:  Gunlom permanent camp
Day 3   BLD
Break camp and travel northwards to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), on the Arnhem Escarpment, where you can swim and explore the monsoon rainforest.  After lunch visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre, an impressive building built in the shape of the local Pig Nosed Turtle. From here we travel to Patonga, where we meet Mandy Muir, a traditional Murumburr woman, who will lead us on an informative walk, explaining the European and Aboriginal history of the area.  Afterwards there is an opportunity to learn how to use the local pandanus to weave baskets and mats and make jewellery, and to discuss the local aboriginal culture. Tonight you stay at a permanent safari camp at Mardugal.
Overnight:  Mardugal permanent camp
Day 4   BLD
Today you travel by 4WD track to Jim Jim and Twin Falls.  At Jim Jim you have the opportunity to view the tallest cascade in the Territory. To get to Twin Falls, you travel by shuttle boat through the gorge and then by foot to the base of the falls.  Return in the late afternoon to the  permanent safari camp at Mardugal.
Overnight:  Mardugal permanent camp
Day 5   BL
An early start today to enjoy a sunrise cruise on the Yellow Water wetlands where you will have a chance to see the abundant birdlife and perhaps the awesome saltwater crocodile.  Then head north across the Jabiluka floodplains to Ubirr to view Aboriginal rock art spanning 23,000 years of seasonal occupation. Your walk around the galleries culminates with a short climb to the highest point in the area. The view from the top of the rock across the floodplains to the north and west and of the Arnhem Escarpment in the east is magnificent. Travelling back to Darwin, you'll cross the floodplains of the mighty South Alligator River, which is around 6km wide at this point.  Arrive in Darwin in the late afternoon. I
