Day 1 West MacDonnell Ranges (L)
Your tour begins in Alice Springs today with a journey west to experience the magnificence and grandeur of the vast West MacDonnell Ranges. It is a day of panoramic mountain scenery, tranquil waterholes, and rocky gorges going first to Simpson’s Gap, an area that is home to the local species of black footed rock wallaby.  Then on to the breathtaking Standley Chasm, a cool, shady retreat filled with cycads, ferns and graceful red river gums.  You will  visit the dry river bed, water hole and rock formations of Ormiston Gorge for a picnic lunch and there will be time to swim in cool waterholes and explore walking trails, with your guide on hand.  Next a stop at the Ochre Pits where a palette of coloured ochre lies exposed in a dry creek bed, offering a fascinating insight into a source of the natural pigments that feature in Aboriginal culture and art. The grave of Flying Doctor pioneer Rev John Flynn provides a poignant reminder of the remoteness of Central Australia before returning to Alice in time to relax with a drink or take a swim before dinner.
Overnight: Alice Springs

Day 2 Palm Valley (L)
Today is  a day of 4WD adventure, exploring the Finke Gorge National Park. En route you'll see much of the natural landscape that inspired Albert Namatjira, a famous Australian indigenous painter. Making your way along the mostly dry bed of the Finke River, you’ll see dramatic evidence of its awesome flood history. Further along the track, the magnificent Amphitheatre at the Kalarranga lookout provides a stunning opportunity for photography, before finally reaching Palm Valley itself. Take a walk amongst the rare Red Cabbage Palms, relics of a previous climate many millions of years ago.  After an excellent picnic lunch travel back along the track to the sealed road to visit the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct, founded by Lutheran missionaries in 1877 and birthplace of watercolour painting in the region before returning to Alice Springs in the glow of the late afternoon sun.
Overnight: Alice Springs

Day 3 Alice Springs to Kings Canyon (L)
This morning  you leave Alice Springs to travel along Larapinta Drive to Wallace Rockhole, an Aboriginal Community, where a local guide will take you on a rock art tour.  There is also the opportunity to purchase local art at a gallery here.   Take the 4WD track to Tnorala (Goose Bluff), a comet impact crater 130 million years old, and enjoy a picnic lunch there. Learn of its Aboriginal significance in this unique natural environment. After lunch, return to the dirt road taking you across the wide open spaces and desert ranges of the Mereenie Wilderness area and arrive at the Kings Canyon Resort in the late afternoon.
Overnight: Kings Canyon Resort

Day 4 Kings Canyon to Uluru (L)
This morning Kings Canyon offers a choice of activities.  Take a hike around the canyon rim for outstanding panoramic views and intriguing sandstone beehive formations.  You may prefer a gentler stroll along the canyon floor with its colourful bird life and cycad plants left behind by a wetter climate millions of years ago.  En route to Uluru enooy a picnic lunch and soak up the ever changing scenery with its sand dunes, salt lakes and the mesa-like formation of Mt Connor.  This afternoon, visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre before touring around the base of the rock with your guide.  Learn of Uluru's cultural and ecological significance as you visit its rock art sites and waterholes.  Finish the day in style with sparkling wine and refreshments as you watch the sun set over Uluru.
Overnight: Ayers Rock Resort

Day 5 Uluru (Ayers Rock) / Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) /Alice Springs (no meals - refreshments only)
Early this morning,  head off to the west to explore Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) in the serenity of the cool morning air.  Join your guide on an informative walk between the massive domes some 200 metres higher than Uluru.  Learn about the geology, history and ecology of this isolated formation.  Return to Ayers Rock Resort in time for onward flights (if required) or lunch (own expense) before you depart on the return journey to Alice Springs, arriving late afternoon around 6.00 pm.  Alternatively, if you wish, remain at Uluru and continue with your own arrangements.
