Day 1 Palm Valley (L) Head west from Alice Springs through Owen Springs cattle station to the Finke River where you 4WD the 19kms along the bed of this ancient water course to Palm Valley. Time to explore the many rock pools amongst the relic palms and cycads and gaze at the spectacular rock formations of the Amphitheatre before lunch. At Hermannsburg, there is time to explore and enjoy the art of the local famed watercolour artists before afternoon tea en route to Alice Springs. Overnight: Alice Springs Day 2 Alice Springs to Kings Canyon (L) This morning travel along Larapinta Drive to Wallace Rockhole, an Aboriginal Community, where a local guide will take you on a rock art tour. You can purchase local art at a gallery here. Take the 4WD track to Tnorala (Goose Bluff), a comet impact crater 130 million years old, and enjoy a picnic lunch there. Learn of its Aboriginal significance in this unique natural environment. After lunch, return to the dirt road taking you across the wide open spaces and desert ranges of the Mereenie Wilderness area and arrive at the Kings Canyon Resort in the late afternoon. Overnight: Kings Canyon Resort Day 3 Kings Canyon / Kata Tjuta (Olgas) (L) This morning Kings Canyon offers a choice of activities. Take a hike around the canyon rim for outstanding panoramic views and intriguing sandstone beehive formations. You may prefer a gentler stroll along the canyon floor with its colourful bird life and cycad plants left behind by a wetter climate millions of years ago. En route to Uluru, soak up the ever changing scenery with its sand dunes, salt lakes and the mesa-like formation of Mt Connor. This afternoon, visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre before touring around the base of the rock with your guide. Learn of Uluru's cultural and ecological significance as you visit its rock art sites and waterholes. Finish the day in style with sparkling wine and refreshments as you watch the sun set over Uluru. Day 4 Uluru (Ayers Rock) / Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) /Alice Springs (no
meals - refreshments only) Early this morning, head off to the west to explore Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) in the serenity of the cool morning air. Join your guide on an informative walk between the massive domes some 200 metres higher than Uluru. Learn about the geology, history and ecology of this isolated formation. Return to the resort in time for onward flights (if required) or lunch (own expense) before you depart on the return journey to Alice Springs. Alternatively, if you wish, remain at Uluru and continue with your own arrangements. |
