MOUNT BORRADAILE SAFARIS, Arnhemland
Scroll down for Price Panel ...
Mount Borradaile is an exclusive, remote safari camp in northern Arnhemland lying beneath an outlier of the Arnhemland escarpment.  Accessed by twin-engine plane from Darwin or Kakadu all the year round, the shady safari camp offers comfortable accommodation with all facilities.  In the dry season you can also get to Mount Borradaile by 4WD via Jabiru in the Kakadu National Park.
The operation is run by Max and Philippa Davidson who have in depth knowledge of the area’s fascinating culture, wildlife and bush..
Mt. Borradaile and the surrounding sandstone hills are honeycombed with caves, once occupied by Aborigines who have lived in Arnhemland for more than 40,000 years.  Here you will see thousands of vivid, wonderfully well preserved rock paintings which chronicle the spiritual element and substance of everyday Aboriginal life.

More about Mount Borradaile Safari Camp
Mount Borradaile Safaris commenced operations in 1986 after the Davidson family successfully negotiated an exclusive lease to 700 square kilometres of pristine wilderness in north west Arnhemland with the traditional Aboriginal land owners.  A stay at Mount Borradaile represents the ultimate in exclusive wilderness expeditions, with a limited number of visitors permitted into the region each week.  Experienced guides will interpret the fabulous rock art for you and introduce you to the ecology of the area.  If birdwatching is your passion, you will love Mount Borradaile, a twitcher's paradise with over 200 species of birds. From the birds and crocodiles of the waterways to the creatures of the bush, this is surely one of the best places to see Australia's wildlife.

Accommodation at Mt Borradaile
In bushland just below the camp's private airstrip is the safari camp.  Accommodation is in twin-share, airy tents each equipped with 2 proper beds, fans, gauze doors for easy access, 240 volt power outlets and external lighting.  The tents are spaced in a wide semi circle around the social hub, a complex that incorporates briefing room, library, kitchen and dining areas. There are hot and cold showers and toilets arranged as shared facilities.  The camp is open all year round.

3, 4 & 5 DAY ADVENTURES at Mount Borradaile Safari Camp
There are no set itineraries at Mount Borradaile and the atmosphere is very relaxed.  The itineraries below serve as a guide only and may vary due to weather conditions.

Departing  Darwin hotels at 7.00 am any day, on request

Day 1
The adventure begins with a 7.00 am pickup from your Darwin accommodation and transfer to Darwin’s light aircraft facility. The trip to Mount Borradaile in your charter aircraft is a spectacular scenic tour in its own right, flying over the world heritage wetlands of Kakadu National Park, one of the wildest coastlines in Australia.
Alternatively a charter flight from Jabiru in Kakadu National Park can be arranged.
After your breathtaking flight settle into airy, twin-share tents with freshly made up beds. Bathroom facilities including hot showers are nearby. Light refreshments are served in the large, screened dining room before your first open air 4WD trip to a nearby Aboriginal rock art site, where a six metre long rainbow serpent, the local totemic protector, dominates an awe inspiring rock shelter. Your guide walks you through chambers of galleries festooned with art.
If time and seasonal conditions allow, a swim in rock pools on top of the escarpment sharpens your appetite for lunch.  After a lunch of fresh salads and cold meats, spend the early afternoon in cool rock overhangs near the camp. Take time to absorb the spirit of at least 50,000 years of human creativity
In the late afternoon you are taken to a billabong for a sunset cruise where you can, with a glass of wine and nibbles in hand, admire the amazing bird life and crocodiles. The sunset’s blaze of colour reflecting golden orange on Mount Borradaile floodplain heralds the return to camp for a shower, dinner and the friendly buzz of conversation.
Day 2
Following breakfast, travel further afield to explore an area described by those privileged to have visited it as a "living museum". Traditional beliefs say that much of the rich tapestry of art dates from the time of creation, when ‘Mimi’ spirits recorded the culture, lore, plants and animals. More recent generations recorded the coming of Macassan traders from Indonesia and the early European explorers to the shores of northern Australia. Back to camp for lunch, followed by a lazy afternoon swim (seasonal conditions allowing), or a bout with the famous Barramundi game fish in the nearby billabong.
Day 3
The local area is a rich, diverse ecosystem with unique flora and fauna.  Walk through nearby monsoonal rainforest thickets, armed with binoculars and camera to record some of the 275 bird species which inhabit the region.   After a hearty lunch back at the camp, return to the art sites and visit catacombs which show signs of recent occupation and of ancient mortuary rites.  If time permits, and seasonal conditions allow, enjoy a refreshing swim.
If you are leaving today, board your charter aircraft for the scenic flight to Darwin or Jabiru at approximately 4.00 pm, arriving at the Darwin terminal at around 5.00 pm or Jabiru at around 4.15 pm.
4 day and 5 day visitors can relax before the evening meal.
Day 4
Maybe try your luck again with the king of game fish, the barramundi, down at the local billabong, or enjoy an exhilarating bushwalk to experience more of the local birds, animal wildlife, bush foods, medicines and art. Back to camp for lunch and If time permits, and seasonal conditions allow, enjoy a refreshing swim.
If you are leaving today, board your charter aircraft for the scenic flight to Darwin or Jabiru at approximately 4.00 pm, arriving at the Darwin terminal at around 5.00 pm or Jabiru at around 4.15 pm.
5 day visitors can relax before the evening meal.
Day 5
Depending on fitness and interest, there are untouched rainforests to explore and many more galleries of Aboriginal art and mysteries such as stone arrangements to see.
