Day One – 19.5 kms
Meet at Adelaide railway station at 8.45 am and catch the train
through the picturesque Adelaide Hills and foothills, leaving the train
to join the Yurrebilla Trail at Belair railway station where you
will walk through South Australia's oldest national park, with a good
array of bird life including musk lorikeets. The
trail follows the Workanda Creek to Echo Tunnel, then Wilyawa Track to
Sheoak Road. The trail descends into the depths of the Brownhill
Creek Recreation Park then through the Carrick Hill and Waite
Conservation Reserve. From there walk along the former Mt Barker
Freeway to magnificent views of Adelaide at Eagle on the Hill. From
Eagle on the Hill, you will walk across the face of Mt Lofty,
overlooking the city below, where you will emerge from the bush to the
magnificently manicured grounds of your accommodation for the evening,
the internationally acclaimed Mt Lofty House. Here you will have a
sumptuous three course dinner at their award winning restaurant
overlooking the picturesque Piccadilly Valley.Day Two – 16 kms
After a cooked breakfast, you will return to the track for the second
leg of your trip. You will walk through some of South Australia’s
most beautiful landscapes as you head towards Cleland Conservation Park
where you will see Australia’s unique wildlife in the acclaimed
Cleland Wildlife Park. From there follow the Heysen Trail
along the Wine Shanty Track through Stringybark forest and head on to
Summertown. You will walk through fertile lands that have reliable
rainfall and a cool climate, providing much of the fresh produce for the
city below. Walk through the beautiful Horsnell Gully Conservation
Park and visit the Giles Ruins followed by a steep climb to Woods Hill
Road and into Norton Summit where you'll stay for the night in a
charming restored cottage after a meal at the renowned Scenic Hotel
looking out on the lights of the city.Day 3 – 20.5 km Your walk this morning will feature gorges, escarpments and waterfalls as well as majestic areas of largely untouched eucalyptus forests. Enter the Morialta Conservation Park, known for its amazing waterfalls and gorges, and then follow Fourth Creek and waterfalls to Deep View Lookout for a lunch stop. Now leave Deep View Lookout and continue through Morialta Conservation Park to Montacute Road were you enter Black Hill Conservation Park. Walk past the old quarries until you reach the summit and then descend down the Black Hill Track and Sugarloaves Trail.
