USEFUL WEBSITES about Northern Territory

The Northern Territory has some of Australia’s most unique and spectacular national parks. Fact sheets and other information is available from the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service www.nt.gov.au/ipe/pwcnt
Be aware that you will need to purchase a permit to enter Aboriginal land, although this may not be necessary if you travel on a recognised public road that passes through such land. Three land councils process permit requests –

  the Tiwi Land Council www.tilg.nt.gov.au
  the Northern Land Council www.nlc.org.au
and the Central Land Council www.clc.org.au

The Automobile Association of the Northern Territory (AANT) www.aant.com.au has a useful website as does Tourism NT www.nttc.com.au
The Public Toilet Maps for Northern Territory www.toiletmap.gov.au is part of a very quirky Australian government website

NEWSPAPERS in Northern Territory

In Darwin in the Top End the main publication is the Northern Territory News www.ntnews.news.com.au, in Katherine there is the Katherine Times www.kathtimes.com.au and in the Red Centre the main publication is the Alice Springs News www.alicespringsnews.com.au. MISCELLANEOUS - Northern Territory

The Northern Territory is more than twice the size of France and yet only has around 200,000 residents (about 1% of all Australians), about half of whom live in Darwin.  This tiny population is one of the reasons that the territory has not yet achieved full status as a state. The isolation and extremes of distance and climate help give the Northern Territory an outback ‘New Frontier’ atmosphere.

Northern Territory Emblems:
Floral – Sturt’s Desert Rose
Fauna – Wedge-tailed Eagle and Red Kangaroo
Crocodiles are found in Northern Territory in both fresh water and sea (salt) water. Always seek local advice before taking the plunge anywhere.
