MISCELLANEOUS - New South Wales + ACT

NEW SOUTH WALES is the birthplace of modern Australia and is now the most populated state and probably the most diverse with spectacular Sydney at the epicentre of it all. An extraordinary range of attractions, along with excellent road, rail and air connections to the rest of the country, ensures that NSW is the main gateway for international visitors to Australia.
Although many areas along the east coast have seen escalating and not always well planned development in the past 30 to 40 years, the natural barrier of the Great Dividing Range and the establishment of a series of national parks have helped to restrain some of the worst excesses of the developers. Once you get away from the urban sprawls, the great outdoors is never far away in NSW.
The AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY (ACT), excised from NSW in the south east of the state, was conceived by bureaucrats in the early 1900s to confine a new national capital city (Canberra).  This was largely to appease Melbourne and Sydney who both hated the idea of the other becoming the capital.  Canberra is set around an inspired man-made lake and boasts some superb architecture, particularly the public buildings.
