Self Drive Itinerary:  Melbourne to Sydney (or reverse) Inland Route via Canberra - 4 nights

Day 1: Melbourne - Milawa  (300Km)
This morning depart north for an overnight stop in Victoria's Alpine Region. Enjoy the wonderful scenery of the high country. From Melbourne take the Hume Freeway leads to Seymour, located on the Goulburn River and in a rich agricultural and winery region. This area was the domain of Ned Kelly during the 1870s, when the Kelly gang robbed the town's bank. Stop off at the small village of Glenrowan, the setting of Ned Kelly's 'last stand' in 1880. Back on the Hume Freeway; take the "Milawa Gourmet Region" exit where you will spend the night.

Day 2: Milawa B
This morning you may like to explore the Great Alpine Road, including the township of Bright, the gateway to Mount Buffalo National Park and the Victorian Alps. The National Park is renowned for its cross-country skiing, as well as trout fishing, bushwalking, canoeing and horse riding in summer. Alternatively you may like to visit National Trust listed Beechworth, an 1850s goldrush town that is packed with history and nearby several excellent wineries.

Day 3 Milawa - Canberra (195Km) B
Back on the Hume Highway, make your way to Albury-Wodonga, then continue on North to Canberra.
Today's drive offers you plenty of roadside sights to keep you amused along the way. Ettamogah Pub, plus the legendary 'Dog on the Tuckerbox' north of Gundagai. This legendary monument is probably the best known slice of Australian folklore 'matemanship' between man and his dog.
On arrival in Canberra, view Lake Burley Griffin and take a trip up the Telecom Tower to view the city. If it's history and culture you enjoy there are many sights to choose from including the National Gallery of Australia with its collection of contemporary Australian and Aboriginal art. For entertainment, there are theatres, restaurants, nightclubs or try your luck at Casino Capital.
Overnight:  Diamant Hotel, Canberra
 

Day 4: Canberra - Sydney (approx. 286 km) B
Spnd the morning exploring Canberra - Australia's Capital City. Parliament House, Questacon, War Memorial, Australian Institute of Sport, there are plenty of choices. On the way out of town you may like to try the toboggan slide, before rejoining the Hume Highway to Sydney.

The journey to Sydney is only 3 hours and is an easy drive encompassing lovely scenery and historic towns. This evening you might like to take in a dinner Harbour side, a harbour cruise, or dine in one of Sydney's many restaurants.
Overnight:: Citigate Central Hotel, Sydney


Day 5: Sydney    B
This morning return the car to either a city or the airport depot.
