4WD Self Drive Itinerary - Kimberley Adventurer: Broome - Kununurra - Broome
|
|
Truly Ref. 1603
|
|
In this remote area, many roads become impassable in the wet season and
this itinerary is recommended for the dry winter months.
|
Typical Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Broome and collect your rental vehicle.
Overnight: Rendezvous Sanctuary Resort, Broome (pictured) for 2 nights
in a studio room. This new resort is superbly located just a short
walk from the pristine sands of Cable Beach, and just a 5 minute
drive from Chinatown and the heart of Broome. |

|
Day 2
You are at leisure to explore Broome and the surrounding area. The world's largest pearl shell was discovered at Roebuck Bay in 1861. Broome quickly experienced a 'pearl rush' of fortune hunters from Europe and the East. Remnants of Broome's exotic past remain. Lord Alistair McAlpine, a British MP, fell in love with Broome, and invested very heavily in the town during the 1980s, yet still preserving the multicultural influences and pioneering tropical ambience.
Today, Broome's Cable Beach (pictured below) is one of the most famous
beaches in Australia, if not the world. |
 |
| |
|
Day 3
Leave Broome and drive to Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge (pictured) in King Leopold
Range Conservation Park on the remote Gibb River Road.
Overnight: Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge (includes dinner
and breakfast)
|

|
| |
|
Day 4
Today, leave Mount Hart and drive to Mount Elizabeth Station, a fully operational cattle station
located between Derby an Kununurra. Relax and enjoy the peaceful isolation and natural beauty
of this remote location.

at Emma Gorge Resort for 2 nights. Note that an El Questro
Wilderness Entry Permit is included in the self drive package.

only) |

|
|
|
|
Day 6
At leisure to explore the unique wilderness and beauty of El Questro
Wilderness Park. Try and find time to take the track up Emma
Gorge where you pass rock pools before arriving at the stunning
waterfall (pictured).
El Questro Wilderness Park is a million acres in size and a working
cattle station with a herd of approximately 5,000 head of crossbred
Brahman and Shorthorn cattle. The park's employees have collated data on
the local flora, fauna and cultural heritage information, including the
pioneering history. This information is now available to all visitors to
El Questro, including informative signage and a series of 'trail data
sheets'. |

|
|
|
Day 7
Leave El Questro and drive to Kununurra.
Overnight: Kununurra Lakeside Resort for 2 nights - motel
room (room only)
Day 8

Park (Bungle Bungles).
