Swimming with sea lions off the Eyre Peninsula, South AustraliaThis is a small group, safari camp based tour for 2-6 people per vehicle.  You will sleep in permanent, large 2 bedroom platform tents with queen beds and private facilities at the superb new Kangaluna Camp - see pictures below.
The Gawler Ranges are 600km to the north west of Adelaide on the Eyre Peninsula.  The terrain is diverse, changing from arid to semi desert and back while the ancient volcanic landscape is spectacular with its gorges and weathered rocky outcrops.  In spring the area comes alive with flowers. Bird and animal life is prolific,  with the chance to get close to sea lions and dolphins. 
Sealions, Dolphins and Outback Plus, a longer 3 night/4 day version of this tour, is also available giving much more time to explore and including the Organ Pipes Amphitheatre.
   
General Information about Sea Lions, Dolphins and Outback Experience ...
This tour begins in Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula and you will need to book flights between Adelaide and Port Lincoln and Ceduna and Adelaide separately or we can arrange it for you. (See below for Local Flight Details from Adelaide ...)
Safaris are conducted in air-conditioned first rate 4WD vehicles, fully equipped and in the care of experienced safari operators.
The tour does not involve strenuous effort but always bear in mind that summer temperatures my well be very high in outback areas.
During the winter months, only the very hardy will wish to actually swim with the sealions but it will still be possible to encounter them at close quarters from the shallows!
 

Kangaluna Camp - a permanent safari camp  

Kangaluna Camp is situated in a beautiful bush setting with abundant wildlife around for viewing on a walk in the evening.  Dinner is in the Mess Tent, which has its own bar.
The safari tents are 7 x 5 metres, each with three rooms and your own private shower and toilet.  
The tents are set a good distance apart for privacy and you have your own view.  So on arrival at camp you can put your feet up and enjoy a drink in peace!

Getting There ...
The tour begins in Port Lincoln and ends in Ceduna on the coast on the Great Australian Bight, South Australia.  Flights  are not included in the tour price.  You will need accommodation in Adelaide for the night before and the night following your tour.  See City Hotels/Adelaide for a selection of Adelaide hotels.

Departs:  Monday from Port Lincoln, South Australia at 9.50am
Finishes:  Wednesday at Ceduna, South Australia at about 7.00pm
This tour does not operate in June and July

DAY 1:  Port Lincoln to Lake Gairdner
Travel north through farming land to Wudinna, a small town of 600 people, breaking for lunch along the way. You will pass Wudinna Rock as you travel into the outback to Kangaluna Camp. This afternoon touring into the National Park is to focus on the abundant wildlife as the outback animals thrive in this environment. You may see emus, wombats and Western Grey, Red and Euro kangaroos as sunset approaches.

DAY 2:  Lake Gairdner / Gawler Ranges wildlife 

Lake Gairdiner

Enjoy breakfast with some of the 146 species of birds recorded here before setting off on the morning drive to spectacular Lake Gairdner. This enormous lake is like a piece of Antarctica, with its glistening white salt pan set in the red landscape. Here you can walk through the desert bush and on the lake looking at the tracks of animals and the incredible colours. Today you will see cigar shaped volcanic rock formations 1500 million years old, birdlife including wedge tailed eagles, and lots of wildlife. During the afternoon drive through a constantly changing landscape via Thurlga sheep Station to Kangaluna Camp. At Corrobinnie Lakes you get the chance to see the amazing colours of the ochre rock the Aboriginal people used to decorate themselves for ceremonies. Enjoy sunset pre dinner drinks on the beach at Sturt’s Lake.

DAY 3:
 Baird Bay
Se lion encounter at Bairds Bay, Eyre Peninsula, South AustraliaThis morning, drive to Baird Bay where you board the boat for an unforgettable wildlife experience. On the 5 kilometre journey to a lagoon near Cape Radstock (at 160 metres, it is one of the highest sheer points on the southern coast of Australia) you can watch Bottlenose dolphins ride the bow wave of the boat, and join these magnificent mammals in shallow water.  Cross the bay to visit a resident colony of rare Australian sea lions and experience playing face to face with these agile and friendly mammals as you wade in protected shallow lagoons.  After lunch on the beach leave Baird Bay and visit Sceale Bay, Streaky Bay and enjoy magnificent coastal scenery before arriving at Ceduna.  (BL)
