Aerial view of some of the Whitsunday islandsThe 74 Whitsunday Islands make a superb cruising location and the waterways between the islands provide year round sailing.  From July to September  whales can often be seen.  Airlie Beach (and nearby Shute Harbour) is a popular starting  point on the mainland.  For details of accommodation in the Whitsundays area, including Hayman Island, see our 'Coast' section.
