 ORPHEUS ISLAND RESORT

Northern Queensland

Scroll down to Price Panel ...
Orpheus Island is a national park, located in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, with easy access by seaplane from Townsville and Cairns.   Orpheus Island Resort is the only building on the island and is a wonderful retreat with unspoilt beaches, superb fringing reef and acres of protected national park.  It is the ideal place to lose yourself as there is a limit of 42 guests and there are no televisions or telephones, and children under 15 years are not catered for.  There are no day trips to the island.  The newly refurbished accommodation is beautifully designed and furnished with elegant simplicity.  Orpheus is quietly sophisticated and not at all pretentious, giving you the feeling that you are a guest amongst friends at a rather exclusive house party.  The service is unobtrusive and flawless.

More about Orpheus Island ...

Discerning visitors have come time and time again from around Australia and around the world. The island stretches for 11 kilometres (7 miles) through the warm, clear waters of the Coral Sea, 24 kilometres (15 miles) off the Queensland coast between Townsville and Cairns. The surrounding waters contain what is regarded by experts as some of
the best coral on the entire Barrier Reef with 1,100 species of fish and 340 of the 350 known species of coral.

Then of course there is the cuisine – one of the true highlights of Orpheus.  The setting is an open air restaurant with wonderful views across the ocean.  Dining at Orpheus is an indulgence – from breakfast, to alfresco lunches or picnic hampers, and finally each evening a seven course degustation-style menu. The chefs prepare a new menu daily, guaranteed to take your taste buds on a gastronomic tour.
Complimenting the peace and tranquility of Orpheus Island Resort, the activities are plentiful.  Imagine a lazy day in paradise with a picnic lunch on your own private beach with time to snorkel with an amazing array of tropical fish and coral.  Or, for the more adventurous, why not take a day trip and scuba dive the outer reef or board your own motorised dinghy and discover the many secluded bays of the island’s national park.
Alternatively, you can opt to do nothing at all and just relax in a hammock on the beach.

Getting to Orpheus Island ...

Access to the resort is by the Orpheus seaplane daily from Townsville (30 minutes) and twice weekly from Cairns (60 minutes). The plane is an 8 seater Amphibious Cessna Caravan owned by Orpheus Island Resort and operated by Nautilus Aviation. Your holiday commences even before you arrive with this fantastic scenic flight across the unbelievable blue waters below.

See price panel below for details of Seagulls Resort on the seafront  in Townsville if you need to stay overnight there.  However, the Orpheus seaplane does co-ordinate with most domestic flights arrivals and departures.
