Aerial view of Heron IslandHeron Island is a true coral island covering 18 hectares, right on the Great Barrier Reef, 72 km off Gladstone in northern Queensland.  The island is a National Park in a Marine National Park and is generally acknowledged as offering some of the best diving, snorkelling and submarine viewing facilities on the Reef.  It is surrounded by beautiful white sandy beaches on which turtles nest between October and April.  There are no day visitors to Heron Island.  Heron has a subtropical climate with an average year round temperature of approximately 24 degrees C.

Getting to Heron Island ...
Access is by helicopter or launch from Gladstone.

Heron Island Air Connections

Regular flights are available from all Australian capital cities to Gladstone (GLT) with Qantas (QF). Gladstone is a 1 hour and 20 minute flight from Brisbane (or a 6 hour drive from Brisbane). 

Launch

Arrival: The launch departs Gladstone Marina at 11.00am daily, final check-in time is 10.30am if not arriving off a flight at the airport. The courtesy transfer to the Marina leaves the airport daily at 10.15am, after the arrival of the early morning flights into Gladstone. The coach arrives at the Marina 10-15 minutes later.
The launch arrives at Heron island at approximately 2.00pm Heron Island time. Buffet lunch is served upon arrival at Heron Island.
Departure: The launch departs Heron Island at approximately 2.00pm Island time or 1.00pm EST. Arrival time into Gladstone is approximately 3.45pm EST and a courtesy transfer is available for immediate transfer to the airport.

Flights arriving into Gladstone to meet the launch must arrive no later than 10.00am.  Flights departing Gladstone must depart no earlier than 4.20pm.  To fully confirm launch transfers, arrival and departure details for Gladstone must be advised.

Shearwater Restaurant
Breakfast and lunch are buffet style while dinner is a 3 course tabled'hote or themed buffet.  The Restaurant manager allocates tables to guests for the duration of their stay, at their first meal.  Special diets are available by arrangement in advance.

Pandanus Lounge and Bar

The Pandanus has panoramic reef views, a cocktail bar and mezzanine level library area.  It is the venue for evening activities and opens onto a reefside terrace.

Accommodation at Heron Island ...
There are 109 rooms all featuring either a balcony or patio, ironing facilities, en suite bathroom, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, ceiling fans, refrigerator and clock radio. To help guests leave the outside world behind, TVs and telephones are not found in guest rooms, but are available in the guest departure lounge. 
 
Turtle Rooms
Turtle Rooms on Heron Island
32 bungalow style cabins (8 of which are family rooms).    Located in a garden setting a short walk away from the beach, these cottages have a relaxed casual style, with two rooms per block.  Eight family rooms are available with a queen and 2 single bunks, accommodating 4 people.  All Turtle Rooms are at ground level and have a large deck and outdoor area. Interiors are bright and fresh, compact but comfortable.
Standard bungalows have queen bed and balcony.  
Reef Suites 
Reef Suite interior, Heron Island 50 suites (16 of which are family suites).  Positioned close to the beach, with filtered reef and water views through a canopy of beachside trees. The living area extends outdoors to a balcony or garden setting, interiors are light filled, modern and comfortable.A queen bed and a single bed, accommodating 3 people (4 if rollaway or cot used).  
The family suites are available with a queen and 2 single beds, accommodating 4 people (5 if rollaway or cot used, although floor space is restricted).  
One room is disable-assisted but does not offer full disabled facilities 
 
Heron Beachside Suites

22 suites, offering absolute beach frontage with direct access to the water and views of the reef.  Generous in size with villa-style inclusions. Double glass sliding doors fill the room with natural light and connect both the spacious bedroom and separate living space to a large outdoor balcony. The living area has a divan as well as comfortable armchairs and coffee table.  A large bathroom and a CD player are among some of the other features. A queen bed and a single bed, accommodating 3 people (4 if rollaway or cot used) .
 
Point Suites 
Point Suite, Heron Island 4 superior grade suites with premium reef views from a beachfront position.    Spacious in design and with a large en suite and separate dressing room.  A generous living area extends through glass doors to an extensive outdoor terrace.  Air-conditioned with guests enjoying a range of additional services and in-room comforts including a fully stocked mini bar (replenished daily), a CD player and phones. Guests also receive a deluxe fruit basket on arrival and a sunset canape platter and an ice bucket   
Extra large one room configuration with king bed.  Accommodates two adults only.   Children under 6 years not catered for.
