Truly Ref. 1418 This escorted holiday has been meticulously planned and incorporates superior accommodation, unique sightseeing experiences, many meals and the services of a professional Tour Director and Tour Driver. Day 1: Arrive Hobart Arrive at Hobart Airport, from where there will be a transfer to your hotel (flights to arrive prior to 5 pm). Check–in and enjoy Hobart at your leisure. Salamanca Place is only walking distance away, take a cruise up the Derwent River or wander through historic Battery Point. In the evening have a Welcome Drink and dinner with your Tour Director Accommodation: Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart, 2 nights. (D) Day 2: Huon Valley + Tahune Forest AirWalk + Geeveston Over the undulating apple–growing hills of the Huon Valley, we travel to the Tahune Forest AirWalk. Once there, you will take a guided walk amongst the towering treetops, over the Huon and Picton Rivers on a cantilevered, suspended walkway. Views – in a word – spectacular! Spend lunchtime at Geeveston’s Forest and Heritage Centre and find out about the history of Tasmanian wood, then travel to Mt Nelson, from which we’ll see a spectacular view of Hobart and the Derwent River. Your Hobart orientation tour will take in Battery Point, Salamanca Place and the Botanic Gardens. Then you are free to dine wherever you like in the evening. (B) |

Day 3: Hobart - Russell Falls - Mt Field National Park - Strahan
![]() A wander through the Salamanca Market starts the day, then depart Hobart and travel west to New Norfolk and the magnificent Mt Field National Park. Tasmania’s oldest National Park is the location of the amazing three-tiered waterfall, Russell Falls. Then you take the winding journey up to Lake St Clair arriving at lunchtime and where amazing vistas await you. From Queenstown travel along the rainforest bordered road of World Heritage protected Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park to coastal Strahan.. ![]() Day 4: Gordon River Cruise The fishing village of Strahan is all yours for the morning. Take a ride on the West Coast Wilderness Railway, highly recommended, or visit the Huon Pine Museum, it’s up to you. In the afternoon be awestruck by the beauty of the pristine, crystal clear water reflecting the untouched wilderness on the Gordon River Cruise. You will see exactly why this river is heritage-listed. Along the way you stop to explore the ruins of the former penal colony of Sarah Island, and Heritage Landing – site of the 1,000 year old Huon Pine. Dinner will be onboard your cruiser. (BD) |

Day 6: Cradle Mountain - The Nut - Stanley - Smithton Travelling through the rainforest around Hellyer Gorge State Reserve you will make your way to Wynyard on the North Coast, and morning tea. You may think that you’re in a butter commercial as the rolling green hills and Friesian cows pass by en route to Table Cape, home of tulips, and picturesque Stanley. Enjoy lunch with a view (own expense) ... of ‘The Nut’, an unusual and huge promontory. The hills roll on from Irishtown to the location of your next guided tour at Allendale Gardens. Dinner and your overnight stop are at Smithton. Accommodation: Tall Timbers Hotel, Smithton. (BD) Day 7: Smithton - Sheffield - Launceston The Northwest coastal landscape provides a scenic backdrop as you travel east through the seaside towns of Penguin, Ulverstone and Devonport en route to Braddon’s Lookout. Soak up the panoramic views over Forth Valley and Bass Strait. Next is Sheffield, the town of murals, for lunch (own expense) and a wander through town. Then visit Ashgrove Farm Cheese Factory for a cheese making presentation and some product tasting. A guided tour and a wander around the beautiful grounds of historic Entally House is your last stop before arriving in Launceston. Accommodation: Hotel Grand Chancellor, Launceston. (BD) Day 8: Depart Launceston Cataract Gorge, wilderness in the city, is yours to explore today. Just two minutes out of Launceston and you’re surrounded by rivers, a gorge and exotic flora and fauna. Enjoy a walk across the suspension bridge, spot peacocks or take the chairlift for an aerial view of this fascinating urban wilderness. WEATHER Tasmania weather is unpredictable. Though summer temperatures average a comfortable 20º Celsius it can unexpectedly snow in December. In winter and autumn average temperature is 12º Celsius. Spring is warm but bring extra clothing for the evenings. Tasmania's summer days are wonderfully long - at midsummer, daylight lasts more than 15 hours. |
