Day 1: Arrive Alice Springs
Tour the sights of 'The Alice' including a visit to the historic Telegraph Station. At the Royal Flying Doctor Service you will see how medical aid reaches those who live in the remote outback. Enjoy a panoramic view of Alice Springs from Anzac Hill (see photo) and then visit the largest Aboriginal art gallery in Australia, Mbantua Aboriginal Art Gallery and Cultural Museum. Day 2: West MacDonnell Ranges Travel west from Alice Springs following the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges. Pass the John Flynn Memorial. Stop at Simpsons Gap with its lovely river red gum scenery. Continue on to magical Angkerle (Standley Chasm) for morning tea. Walk into the Chasm along the stony watercourse lined with cycads, ghost gums, acacias and cypress pines. Travel to Ellery Creek Big Hole before arriving at Ormiston Gorge. We travel on to Glen Helen Gorge, a semi permanent waterhole. Enjoy a Ploughman's lunch with fresh damper. Depending on the time of the year a refreshing swim may be possible at one of the waterholes. Nearby is the Mt. Sonder lookout. This beautiful mountain was the subject of many paintings by the famed Aboriginal artist and Arrernte tribesman, the late Albert Namatjira (BL) |

Day 3: Kings Canyon
Travel through the Red Centre to Kings Canyon. For the energetic a
guided climb to the canyon rim will be rewarded with magnificent views
of Watarrka National Park. Or you may prefer to explore the
boulder-strewn canyon floor, an easier walk. The sheer red rock face of
the canyon soars over 100 metres above lush palm forests, sheltering
them from the surrounding desert conditions. The park is a conservation
area whose rock holes and gorges provide refuge for over 600 species of
plants and many native animals. While the Luritja Aboriginal people have
called the area their home for over 20,000 years, it was little known to

Day 4: Uluru (Ayers Rock)Leaving Watarrka National Park behind you travel through to Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park. Be awe-struck as you glimpse sight of one of the natural wonders of the world. Uluru stands 348 metres high. This evening enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles as you watch the spectacular colours of the sunset at Uluru (Ayers Rock) and afterwards an Aussie barbecue under the stars. Accommodation: Desert Gardens Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort, 2 nights. (BD) Day 5: Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) Watch sunrise at Uluru. You will be introduced to the natural and cultural landscapes of this remarkable region. |
