ITINERARY:  Sydney to Adelaide ('Highlights of Southern Australia')

Day 1
: Sydney – Canberra 
Depart Sydney at 8.00am and begin your journey to the national capital, Canberra, via the Southern Highlands with a stop at historic Berrima, a visit to a working sheep farm and an Aussie barbecue lunch. After arriving in Canberra, tour through Parliament House and visit the poignant Australian War Memorial before enjoying a Welcome Drink and dinner with your Tour Director.

Cooma and the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme start your day, before you get the option (extra cost) to take a ride on the Mount Kosciuszko chairlift and experience the highest point in Australia. Enjoy the stunningly picturesque Kosciuszko National Park - home to mobs of kangaroos – as you travel the Alpine Way. Cross the Murray River into Victoria and travel on to beautiful Beechworth (pictured) for an overnight stay in one of the unique Bed and Breakfast properties.

Day 3
: Beechworth – Melbourne 
Get to know Beechworth with a tour and some free time to explore the locally famous Beechworth Bakery, antique shops and galleries. Later you will see the museum and then on through Glenrowan and Ned Kelly country to cosmopolitan Melbourne. Evening at leisure - a dinner option (extra cost) is onboard the distinctive Colonial Tram Car Restaurant.

Day 4: Melbourne at leisure  
You have a full day at leisure to explore Melbourne at your own pace – perhaps visit Phillip Island and its famous fairy penguins, try your luck gold panning at Sovereign Hill or simply enjoy the wonderful shopping and great cafes and restaurants.

Twelve Apostle, Great Ocean Road © Tourism Victoria Day 5: Great Ocean Road 
Today experience incredible coastal scenery along the famous Great Ocean Road including the amazing Twelve Apostles, London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge formations in Port Campbell National Park. You can also look for whales off the scenic coastline of Warrnambool (May and October).

This morning visit Worn Gundidj at Tower Hill State Game Reserve. The area was a rich food source for the Koroitgundidj people whose descendants retain links with this country. Your guide will provide an Aboriginal perspective about flora, wildlife, volcanic formations, bush existence and medicinal practices. Then marvel at the pristine vistas before you continue along the coast through picturesque Port Fairy. Skirt the Lower Glenelg National Park crossing the state border to South Australia into Mt. Gambier for a city tour and stop to look at the spectacular and mysterious Blue Lake.

Day 7: Coonawarra- Adelaide
Travel to Penola in the heart of the Coonawarra, where Australia's first saint Mary MacKillop founded the order of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Then on through Naracoorte, en route to Adelaide, the sedate 'City of Churches'.

First up is seaside Glenelg, then continue on to the picturesque coastal village of Victor Harbor on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Here you'll have some free time to explore, maybe take a walk to Granite Island and see some sensational coastal views. Next ravel by ferry to Kangaroo Island for a two-night stay. You will  have dinner overlooking the spectacular Backstair Passage.

Day 9: Kangaroo Island at leisure
Today explore Kangaroo Island! Head to Flinders Chase National Park for some great photo opportunities at the Remarkable Rocks and Admiral’s Arch. You’ll also have the chance to spot koalas, wallabies and kangaroos. You are invited to Andermel Marron Farm for a food and wine experience that captures much that is very special about Kangaroo Island. Andermel will host you with a visit to the Marron (freshwater crayfish) ponds and tanks. Taste some of their own Two Wheeler Creek wine and farm-produced bush tucker before sampling the Marron with lunch. Later, join a guided tour at the Seal Bay Conservation Park and walk among a colony of sea lions as they doze in the sun after their lengthy fishing forays in the Southern Ocean.

Day 10: Kangaroo Island – Adelaide
Take the morning ferry back to Cape Jervis, then travel through the Adelaide Hills back to Adelaide.  If you have an onward flight out of Adelaide you will be transferred to the airport.  (B)

WEATHER
Australia's climate is characterized by its diversity, as temperature and precipitation differ from region to region and from season to season.

Victoria
- enjoys four distinct seasons. Summer (December to February) has plenty of warm, sunny days around 26º Celsius, though the weather can be changeable so bring a light jacket just in case. Spring (September to November) is fresh and invigorating, and autumn (March to May) is a superb time to visit with the changing leaves and moderate temperatures. Winter (June to August) can be cold - alpine snowfields are just three hours from Melbourne by car, a perfect opportunity to enjoy some skiing

Adelaide and South Australia - here the climate is warmer - mild winters and warm to hot summers. It's a place to enjoy the good life. The warmest months (December - February ) will captivate you with carefree outdoor dining, perfect days on the beach or just alfresco cafe hopping. Spring and autumn bring pleasant, mild days and nights to enjoy. The average maximum summer temperature is 28º Celsius, while in winter it drops to about 15º Celsius. Summer temperatures in the outback regularly reach 40º Celsius.
