Broome, Western  Australia

Cable Beach, at the edge of the Kimberley where the Great Sandy Desert meets the Indian Ocean, is a 23 km arc of dazzling white sand and is the setting for Cable Beach Club.  Cable Beach Club's architecture is an eclectic mix of tropical Kimberley house and grand Chinese pavilion.  Its 26 acres of gardens grow pandanus palms beside gum trees, water lilies beside frangipani. The Club is dotted, inside and out, with artworks and antiques that set an exotic, colonial tone.  Cable Beach Club is ten minutes from the old pearling town of Broome and it makes a luxurious base for exploring the spectacular frontier of the Kimberley or a place to stay before or after one of the many safaris and tours on offer; (see our 'Wilderness and Outback' section).

More about Cable Beach Club ...
There are two beautiful pools at Cable Beach Club. The blue Club Pool is perfect for families, with its two depths, its cheerful waterfall and its huge spa. Secluded at the other end of the resort, the adults only salt water pool is a peaceful oasis, the perfect spot for a quiet book and a cool cocktail. (Both pools have bar and café service.)

In the centre of the resort, just behind the Club Pool, there are four tennis courts, with flood lighting. Beside them is the gymnasium, offering a multi-use system, exercise bikes, rowing machines and free weights.

The opulent Club Restaurant has a  first-class menu and here you can relax in an elegant 19th century Dutch Colonial chair  and enjoy the atmosphere created by  flickering, wax-covered candelabras, carved wooden columns from a Jain temple in India and antique finch cages dangling from the ceiling.

For more informal dining, Lord Mac’s, named after the resort’s founder, Lord McAlpine of West Green, provides buffets at breakfast and dinner, with plenty of local tropical produce. Lord Mac’s has lovely views of the grassed amphitheatre sweeping down to Cable Beach and the sunsets beyond.

Adjacent to Lord Mac’s is the  popular Sunset Bar where you can enjoy balmy evenings watching the sunset lightshow over Cable Beach, with an icy drink in your hand.
